$pread magazine announces its
second annual show of sex worker art, in a benefit art exhibition and silent
auction, which will include an opening night gala gathering of sex workers and
their allies. Sex Worker Visions will feature art work made by sex workers
and/or about sex work ³sex work² can be interpreted broadly. Erotic images
will not take precedence over non-erotic images, in either case, explicitness
is welcome.
Photographs and works on paper will be most often represented
in the show; there is limited room available for three-dimensional and moving
image works.
Deadline for submissions is March 30, 2007. We will advise
you of our decision by April 15, 2007.
To submit your work for consideration, please either email
the following to audacia@spreadmagazine.org
or mail to Art Show Submission, c/o $pread Magazine PO Box 305 Cooper Station,
NY, NY 10276:
- Digital
images or weblinks of up to five different art pieces, with titles;
- 100
word artist's bio;
- 250
word statement about the piece(s) (can be per piece or inclusive of a set
of pieces);
- FRAMED
dimensions of the piece(s): your art must arrive to us framed; if it is
not a work on paper it must come with installation materials and
instructions (unless it is video);
- Price
of the piece: if you've never priced your art before, take into
consideration materials, time, and the fact that the gallery and $pread
Magazine will take cuts of the sale. Pieces in our show last year averaged
between $100 and $300, though of course more and less expensive pieces are
welcome;
- DO NOT
send original art works to us unless requested;
- Entry
fee: $10, payable by PayPal [use: info@spreadmagazine.org]
or by check or money order.
The show benefits $pread
Magazine; artists will also get a cut of the sale from their piece if the piece sells.

For the non-artists or otherwise creative types among us,
$pread invites sex workers to paint, mutilate, or otherwise decorate sex toys
for inclusion in our second annual exhibition of sex worker art. Please also
include your name (pseudonyms are fine), the name of the piece, and a 100 word
artist's bio.

inclusion in the show. There is no entry fee for submitting to this portion of
the exhibition; however, dildos become the property of $pread magazine once
they are received.
$pread will also be collaborating with women-friendly sex
toy stores around the country to have events in which sex workers can hang out
with other sex workers and paint dildos which will then be sent to us in New
